PROF. OLUWAFOLAKE AKINBODE

research PROFESSOR

PERSONAL PROFILE:

Discipline: Plant Pathology

Position: Research Professor

Qualification: BTech., MSc., PhD.

Technological achievement:

Discovery of a number of bioagents (Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus subtilis, Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma pseudokoningii) and plant extracts (tobacco, Nicotiana tabacum; castor plant, Ricinus communis; Moringa oleifera Lam; Tithonia diversifolia; Vernonia amygdalina and Annona muricata) that are effective in inhibiting the growth of pathogens causing plant diseases such as anthracnose disease of cowpea; leafspot, ear rot and stalk rot diseases of maize.

Established the use of Arbuscular mycorrhiza for controlling diseases of Amaranthus spp, maize and cowpea. Likewise, prevention of mycotoxin contamination to appropriately store crop seeds of kenaf and maize was established by using eco-friendly control strategies.

Research interest:

Use of environmentally friendly (phyto-extracts and microbial agents) control strategies against biotic constraints of crops as alternative to the use of synthetic fungicides.-
