The Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Obafemi Awolowo University, was established by the founding fathers to carry out applied research in agriculture and agro-value chain for the benefit of mankind, profitable enterprise, and to constantly communicate the breakthroughs to relevant stakeholders. The focus is the southwest Nigeria where the economic mainstay had been agriculture. Applied Agricultural research is multi-disciplinary, multi-stakeholders, multi-institutional and holistic and requires extensive and consistent collaboration with relevant organizations to source for funds for research purposes and ideas for desired technologies that can stand the test of time. Consequently, partnership at different levels of involvement and project funding is a common phenomenon in the Institute.
Networking and External Funding Partnership Office (NEFPO) has been given a crucial role to assist the Director in optimizing and delivering outstanding support for funding and resource opportunities, to help researchers compete and succeed in external funding writing for the Institute research activities. The office assist the Director with counsel on a wide variety of matters relating to networking and external funding partnership.

- Identify and facilitate establishment of new networks, partnership and collaborations for IAR&T on research;
- Identify funding and resource opportunities for the Institute research support;
- Search for research proposal calls in all Institute expertise areas;
- Identify relevant programmes/persons and forward such research call guidelines, formats and logical framework details as appropriate;
- Monitor the proposal writing, clear the proposal for submission by evaluating and ensuring deadlines are met and procedures followed;
- Oversee and evaluate research grants programmes.
- Determine the effectiveness and impact to deliver outcomes which can be applied for the benefit of stakeholders;
- Identify and source national and international research collaborators partnership opportunities through inbound lead follow-ups;
- See to the collation and publishing of research findings emanating from external funded projects;
- To evolve guidelines for the management of externally funded projects and advice the Director accordingly.
