The dynamics of the research world place much emphasis on adequate use of Information and Communication Technology in all aspects of research activities for effective service delivery. In the same vein, there is a fast evolving perception of research as a global community whereby research Institutes are expected to keep with the global pace in agricultural research.
The Information and Technology Unit (ITU) of the Institute has the mandate of providing cutting-edge ICT-based services for effective research and extension service delivery. The Unit also deploys its human and material resources for effective connection of the Institute with the global agricultural research community.

Unit Objectives

  1. Design and manage the Institute website for effective linkage of the Institute with global community
  2. Daily update of the Institute social media handles such as facebook, instagram, twitter(X), Youtube and LinkedIn.
  3. Provide computer repairs and maintenance services to all Programmes, Units, Centre and Sections of the Institute.
  4. Training and capacity building for staff on handling of ICT equipment and proficiency in the use of system and application software for enhanced productivity.
  5. Provide technical support during Seminar, Conferences, workshops and Training in the Institute.
  6. Supervision of all ICT based contract carried out in the Institute
  7. Provision of system configuration to the procurement unit so as to maintain the standard of ICT equipment supply to the Institute
Unit Focus

The unit focuses on delivery of effective and efficient IT support services, update of the Institute website and social media handles, supervision of the procurement of state-of-the-art ICT equipment, and prompt response to service request and the challenges of the operating environment.

Our Collaborators

The Unit collaborates with the department of Computer Science and Engineering, department of Statistics, department of Mathematics and the department of Cyber Security of tertiary institutions through the training of students on Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

The Unit collaborates with National Youth Service Commission (NYSC) through the posting of corps member in related field to the Institute for their primary assignment.

Past Achievements

The Unit supervised the Installations of the facilities in Farmers Helpline Center established by the federal ministry of agriculture and rural development in the Institute.

The Unit supervised the deployment and implementation of the primal Integrated software in use by four (4) important sections of the Institute, the Registry, Account, Audit and Procurement.

Over 90 executive officers of the Institute were trained by the Unit in collaboration with the Registry department, sponsored by the Management in 2023.

The unit provides all the necessary technical support during the 1st African Conference on Precision Agriculture in 2020.

The Unit developed a mobile application (iartMobile) for the Institute.

The Unit deployed TEEAL database wirelessly for easy accessibility on android and PCs.

The Unit published and manages past volumes of Moor Journal of Agricultural Research on electronic platform.

The Unit developed soil portal for digitized soil maps emanating from the Institute. The Unit developed e-library for the Institute

Future Plans

The Unit is creating database for the bibliographic index of scientific publications in the institute.

The Unit will create knowledgebase for farmer’s helpline center of the Institute.
