1. To identify suitable and adaptable high yielding kenaf and jute varieties for different agro-ecological zones in Nigeria.
2. To evaluate kenaf varieties that can be used as alternative fiber source for jute bag and paper production.
3. To develop production technology on kenaf and jute for small, medium and large scale industrial uses in Nigeria.
4. To develop cottage level industrial utilization of kenaf and jute.
5. Co-operate with other International Institutes and National Research Centers for Exchange of Information and Genetic Resources of Fiber Crops.
