Prof. L. O. Ogunsumi
The Institute of Agricultural Research and Training has the zonal mandate for farming systems research and extension activities. Southwest Nigeria and this responsibility is discharged by the Southwest Farming Systems Research and Extension Programme (SWFSR&EP). The Programme evaluates and promotes technologies that are ecologically adaptable, socio-culturally acceptable and economically viable to millions of farming households in Southwest agro-ecologies. These activities basically revolves round Farming Systems Research, Technology dissemination, technical training for extension personnels, farmers and entrepreneurs. Our activities also extend to conduct of adoption, impact assessment, policy and other socio-economic studies. The Programme is the central rallying point for all research and extension activities of the Institute. Programme Vision: Increasing agricultural production, food security and income of farmers in South West Nigeria through demand driven research and extension outreaches.
Manpower The Programme is endowed with experienced scientists across different disciplines of relevant to its mandates. This is in addition to technical and administrative staff of proven proficiency in their different areas of concern. The Programme’s pool of expertise covers Agricultural Extension; Communication, Rural Development and Sociology, Impact Assessment, Agricultural production and resource Economics, agronomy, entomology, soil physics, Water resources and agro metrology, Biometrics and statistics, Wildlife Management, Fisheries and Aquaculture Management ,Pasture and Range management and Poultry Nutrition.
