Current activity carried out by the Programme is based on using improved kenaf productivity to reinvigorate value chain farming system for cottage and industrial uses. The following tasks are involved;
- On-farm investigation of desirable agronomic traits in two kenaf accessions screened and selected
- Effect of mutation using varying doses of Gamma irradiation on morphological traits in M1 and M2 generation of the seeds of kenaf varieties
- Improving kenaf genotypes for adaptation to effects of climate change
- Control of vector-transmitted viruses in kenaf using integrated disease management strategies
- Molecular diagnosis of root-knot nematodes and evaluation of the nematicidal potential of some botanicals for improved yield of kenaf
- Economic evaluation of appropriate time of planting and retting techniques in the production of quality kenaf fibre for value addition
- Development and evaluation of farmers’ friendly equipment for enhanced kenaf productivity for agro-industrial growth in Nigeria
- Development and evaluation of green tea from improved kenaf leaves
- Production, evaluation, sensitization and popularisation of kenaffobre for POP production
